How exactly does the FX4 e locker work and how does it stack up vs GM E80?
So I know the basic difference between a locker and a limited slip. I understand the GM auto locking rear doesn't have to be manually selected, but I don't believe that it would be the optimal option for a lot of on-road snow and ice driving. A limited slip is better for that.
How does the new fx4 locker work? I understand you pull out the **** (like doing fog lights lol) to lock it in 4hi or 4lo. Now this seems impossible, but ford's website calls it a limited slip e-locker. That would probably be the best solution IMO, limited slip all the time and selectably lockable. I assume they actually mean its a selectable e-locker and when not selected its open diffs?
For many peoples uses it seems to me that if they are open diffs (like i suspect) when not locked, any other trim line f150 with a limited slip would be a better option?
It may be the locker Auburn Gear puts out. It is limited slip when not engaged just like any other ls rear ends with a clutch pack then when engaged it electronicly locks, for a better explanation you may look up Auburn Gear, I think its listed as their ECTD locker if memory serves thats the Electric Control Traction Device. I know thats what I want to add to my '08 down the road
Correction its the Electronic Control Traction Enhancing Differential I would have edited my last post but couldn't figure out how, this forum isn't quite like the last one I was on.

Can anyone else confirm this or provide more info?
Field scout, if it is like the auburn ectd, I think that is far superior to the gm auto locker for 99% of users. Limited slip always active with the option to selectively lock it off road seems like a perfect combo to me...
i can comment on the limited slip function. yesterday out on my street with the traction control off i put the truck up against a curb and power braked it a little bit and both tires spun like hell. i know some limited slips are weak but this one seems to be strong-for now
well i took mine off road a little bit in the snow in 2wd it acted like a pois rear end and with the 4x4 on and rear locked it pulled up a steap snow cover hill like no one bussines

Sounds impressive. Now all ford needs to do is add an on demand setting to the transfer case like the expedition has...

What it sounds like is a limited slip that has selectable full locking.
From what I gather with the GM locker it spins until a certain criteria and then locks. I'd take the LSD/ selectable locker over it any day.

The G80 will engage in 2wd, it engages at 200 RPM difference. I went from a 03 FX4 w/ a LSD to a G80 and the G80 was night and day better, I have not used a e locker as ford has it set up however, I can say that I like the e locker set up except that you have to put it in 4wd, someone will be able to figure out how to how to make it work in 2wd I'm sure. I like my G80 in that I get 100% lock side to side pulling out of a boat ramp without the binding of 4wd. ever try to turn a wheel on brushed concrete without water on it? I'd like to get a XLT with the E locker but no such luck. I think ford has a great setup, the only other truck to offer a good locker set up is the H3T which has e lockers front and back (that is in this price range).
well i looked it up in the owners guide and it say it works as a standard axel until you turn on the 4 wheel drive and it stays locked till you hit 25 mph in high or low range till 65 mph
