Well I just bought a '95 Bronco Eddie Bauer Ed. with the 5.8L. Now I was told that all the Eddie Bauers came with a limited slip in the rear end and I was just wondering if you guys knew anything about this. I've never driven anything with a locked rear or limited slip, so I'm not sure exactly how different it would feel. To me, when I took it out in the woods yesterday, it felt like when one wheel would slip the other would grab and I would take off. I also played around in a dirt parking lot and both tires broke loose whenever I punched it or did a donut. I looked for a code or number on the rear diff, but I have no idea how to read them. Could anyone help me out with this?
What is the AXLE code on your door sticker? If it starts with an H, like H14, it has the limited slip option. If it's just the number, then no, unless someone has added it.
I've also heard a way to tell is to jack up the truck and spin one tire, if the other tire spins the opposite direction, you do not have limited slip.
I also believe they came with limited slip in the rear, and a locker up front.
No locker up front. I wished for it last Sunday when the right front axle was sitting on a stump. I have frequently thought my LS rear worked well when travelling through mud holes. It did not get me out of the stump and loose sand situation because I tried not to spin the wheels.
Look at the rear tag. If "L" is shown as in 3L55 you have LS. If you change the rear grease don't forget to add friction modifier for LS.
axle code H9 on the door jamb sticker is 3.55 gear with factory L/S, open front. If you check the ID tag on the rear diff, sometimes the "3" is under the bolt in "3L55 8 8 xxx" on the bottom row, JSM84
No the Bauers did not automaticly come with LS but they may have it. Like what was said check the door tag.
Huh?
May be added as an option. I think
I don't know, as I've only had one Bronco and don't know a lot of other people that do, so it's just been from reading. Whenever I ask about or research stock setups, I find information about stock ones coming with front lockers. Could very well be wrong.
the stock LS in the back is an ok unit but keep up on the maintanence otherwise it will fail and damage the spider gears. I would pull the rear cover and inspect everything and put in fresh gear oil and the friction modifier so you know the condition of the unit.
