coolant overflowing from overflow

my 1998 ranger lately has been pushing coolant from the radiator in to the overflow and not pulling it back into the radiator. Every couple of days I have to fill the radiator or it will overheat. I replaced the thermostat and cap no luck. The truck does't overheat until the coolant in the radiator gets low. Any help would be great.

This usually means there is a leak somewhere. The fluid expands into the overflow, but as it cools, air gets pulled in through a leak. Over time more and more coolant is lost and not recovered. Find the leak and fix the leak, then the problem you are experiencing should go away. Make sure the leak is not in the overflow tube itself, we had a tube that wasn't sealed on the neck of the radiator, so the water would flow down, but not back up.

You may still have an air bubble in the cooling system thats causing the overflow and over heating. Check for that as well as a possible leak.

Also watch out for a head gasket leak. Alot of times this will cause high pressures in your cooling system, pushing it past your radiator cap, and into your overflow.
