I have a 1999 F-250 V10 gas. I recently put 3 quarts of Mobile synthetic and 3 quarts regular Mobile. Is this okay for my engine? I have read this is cheap way to make oil synthetic blend. Any thoughts?
Buy some Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend oil. It will be cheaper than buying 3q of dino and 3q of synthetic. You won't have to wonder if they mix well together, which they should no problem. MC blend oil is cheaper than dino often times.
mc 5w20 is great oil, get it at wal mart. I ran mobil syn for a long time and moved to 5w30 val syn which protects 4x better then m1 well that is what they say. I know one thing for sure you can't go wrong with what ford says to use.
I agree... don't buy two kinds and mix them. Just buy the blended stuff and you will be okay. I run 5w-20 M1 full syn in my 03' and it does fine. Just have to add a quart every 3k.
I would run full synthetic but it cost too much money for the efforts and I like to change my oil every 4-5000 miles. I have heard too many complaints with not changing full synthetic for 7-10000 miles.
Your priorities and desires closely match mine! I normally run full synthetics in my rigs, but with towing, I like changing pretty frequently. Mixing SHOULD be OK, but there is a tiny risk the combo you choose results in a less than optimal additive package.
I decided the MC 5W20 semi-syn blend was the best solution for me.
I run Valvaline 5w-30 MaxLife with Lucas oil stabalizer in the X with 120,000 miles on it. I run MC 5w-20 in the Mustang with Synthetic Lucas oil stabilizer.
I have used full synthetic for years now. I had a geo metro with a 3cyl motor running full syn and changed every 4-5k and that car had over 200k on it when the frame broke, motor never used a drop of oil. I plan to run only full synthetic in my v10 also, I know it takes like 6 quarts but you can still do a complete oil change for around $35 and thats only 7/10 of a penny per mile if you change it at 5000 miles. sounds like a good deal to me.....
Leave the mixing to the labs. We're talking chemistry here.
Run full Syn its just all around better or run Syn blend if costs are an issue.
Regular Dino oil with regular filter changes has worked for decades. be religious on the interval.
Blending it yourself is a crap shoot IMO.
Damn, thats like mixing Canadian club whiskey into Crown Royal.
Im useing full synthetic on my 2005 SD and I still change it every 3 months/3k.
In the summer I was thinking about useing motorcraft synblend and of course im useing the great motorcraft filter with any oil I use.
