Uaw/ford compromise
The United Auto Workers union said Tuesday that it has reached a tentative agreement with General Motors Corp., as well as Ford Motor Co., and Chrysler LLC on concessions aimed at easing the financial burden on the ailing U.S. automakers.
The union, which has about a 1,000 at Ford’s Woodlawn plant and nearly 1,200 at GM’s Tonawanda engine facility, did not provide specific details about the concessions.
UAW representatives continue to negotiate with Big Three officials about the amount of contributions the automakers are expected to make to tax-free retiree health care trust funds at the three companies, UAW president Ron Gettelfinger said in a statement.
