Innovative is a custom tuning company(among other things) that uses SCT to write custom tunes for these trucks to get more power out of them. Strategy specific tunes are usually more efficient then off-the-shelf "canned" tunes because they are specific to what's programmed to your truck and make the best of what you have. Off-the-shelf tuners are more like one size fits all and have to appeal to a broad range of strategies and that can cause rough riding and irratic shifts for some people, but run like a dream for others. I have yet to hear of total engine failure because of strategy alone. I have heard of other failures with off-the-shelf tuners(headbolts, tranny etc) but that has not been attributed to actual difference in strategy, but in how the acquire power within their tunes.
The PCM and TCM are intigrated together. thus, thier programming is made up of a bunch of 0's and 1's. each set of 8 0's and 1's make up a bite. these 0's and 1's make up a readable code to the pcm/tcm and give it a condition or input to compair to a stratigy chart programmed to the pcm. so basically it just compairs readings to a chart and gives an out put accordingly. there is ROM witch is not programmable. this stores basic engine and transmission operation, but isnt enough to run off of. the EPROM is programmable, this is what the dealership "flashes". and i believe the chips people use change programming in the RAM to reroute the pcm/tcm to read off of the chips output strategy. so this is what changes the vroom vroom of the truck or car. lol. so basically this is everything that everyone has said above me already. if you dont have the right programming it will run like ***** or not at all. -6.0L tech
My truck has a VXCF4 strategy and I use VXCF0 tunes with no problems. From what I"ve read if you use a different strategy it should at least be from the same year.
Just thought of it.... But can or does someone make a no start program for thr sct? I was curious debating a trip close to the border and this would make for possibly the ultimate theft deterent.... Kinda hard to push a 8000k truck to steal it
that system already exits in the truck. the anti theft module. it used the PATS functions to recognize an internal code in the key and if it doesnt match with what is programmed in the module then it wont start.
That probably works fine if your truck came equipped with it.... Also if you add a aftermarket remote start they use a transmitter to match that key transmitter to get past the anti theft. My 03 mustang had anti theft but after they got the remote start on it I no longer needed a key with the chip in it.
Also I would imagine having the computer programmed to no start would make the theif have to have a flash device that could override the sct which I would say leaves less than a 1% chance that the truck could be stolen short of it being towed off. Adding and removing the program would be a real pita 8-10 minutes load and reload time
