I have a 99 F250 4WD 7.3L super duty, two door w/ 8 foot bed. Need a new muffler and trying to avoid the high price dealer unit. Mine has a 3.5" diameter inlet and outlet and the outer shell is about 20" in length. I think the tailpipe and muffler are all one piece. Does anyone have a good mail order source for a suitable replacement?
If you can stand a little louder muffler, the Walker Big Truck Muffler (BTM) is pretty inexpensive. It is a little longer than the stock muffler, but with the long bed you should have plenty of room. Search these forums and you will find a link with photos of the installation. The BTM is louder because it is a straight-through design, so it has less backpressure. It should give you a little more power and perhaps better fuel mileage.
I would find a regular straight thru muffler or a BTM muffler anything is better then the restrictive stock muffler. It will really help to lower your exhaust tempratures.
