On really cold days(-25-30 cel) my turbo sounds like it is singing.... not a whisle or a turbo whine, it has a ringing singing sound to it until it really warms up. It is really noticable between 1500 and 2000 rpm. Should I be concerned is something jamming up in there that needs some replacing/cleaning or at least looking at. I do drive it slow until it is warmed up for about 8 kms/5 miles from my house doing 80kmph/50 mph to the highway then I walk/roll on it up to about 120 km or 70 mph. 13 km/8 mile drive to work at highway speed and the same method going home. By the time I get to the highway the melodic singing is gone.
Not a whine or a whistle the only sound I could relate it to was a singing/ringing similar to the sound you can make when you rub the edge of a wine glass with a wet finger.
I know the sound the wine glass makes when you rub the top of it's rim but I'm not sure if that is similar to my turbo sound. I will check this AM when I start her and let you know tomorrow night what I come up with.
Sorry I can't be of more help but I am sure the smarter FTE members will chime in soon.
gwcon, thanks for your responses, does it ever get to -25F where you are from? I think this is a cold weather issue because this is the only time mine seems to be singing to me is from -13F to -25F any warmer and I use that term loosely it does not seem to sing for me. For the past few days it has been around -5F to -2F in the morning and I don't really notice it.

I noticed mine this morning... it's more like the high pitch noise that you hear on a computer hard drive that is starting to fail but louder. For the hard drive it's bad but for the turbo I'm sure it's normal, mine does this in the mornings while it warms up. I just roll down the window a little and enjoy the sounds!!
I think it may be way to get the engine to warmup faster. I.e. like the exhuast backpressure valve at idle. It may be the same effect, but while driving.
Either that or it's your truck serenading you.....
Hell no!! I hope I never see that kind of cold ever again. I grew up with it but I get worried when I see 30 degrees now. Sorry I could not be more help.
It was 50 degrees this morning and and the turbos were whistling sweet dixie to me when I flicked on the ole high idle switch this AM.
Better than listening to the birds sing to each other on a quiet day.
