Has anyone ever installed the overhead console that is only available with the lariat versions of the F-250 into an XLT model? Just wondering if there is a way to do it.
The exact same Idea hit me this morning. Have U found out anything as far as where to buy and how to install? I called Ford and they said they would sell me one(std for lariat) but it was not recommended due to the installation. Their way of saying "buy a Lariat".
The dealer is full of crap. I do not see why you cannot just buy one of consoles and install it on the xlt. What could this possibly involve. using a screwdriver. Unless there is a certain way to mount them that is only available on the lariat.
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
I'm trying to find out how much the overhead console would be if purchased through Ford. Any help? I'd imagine that you could piggy back the power off of the dome light which has a constant power supply running to it provided the engine is turned on. As long as the fuse can support both it shouldn't be a problem. I would also think that any custom interior shop could do the install but haven't really looked for one yet.
please post price when you can.
I am interested in the Bronco EB overhead console for our 96, but I know it will cost more than $400.00 new. I priced a new bronco center console once from a local dealer's parts dept and found that all the trim pieces, hardware, etc. had to be individually ordered along with the console box. The price for most of the console's hardware and box was about $320.00. So we ended up w/a a Tuffy security console.
Also, price the temp sensor.
Good luck!

No luck finding one yet. We live in da pinies, so local yards have the oldies.
One possible source is copartfinder, but they charge a fee for their search engine now. They have pics of the vehicles and a % of parts/body left.

Best bet is with a yard in a large city or a local yard that is willing to find it for you. Our yards won't; they've switched to u-pull.
Btw, if you find a wreck, get the outside temp. sensor and wiring harness(es)
They should be able to put it on. I have a 2001 XL with the overhead console. But something I noticed today, when I turn on my lights the juice stops to the overhead console. Just started happening recently... I'm still under warantee so I'm going to take it in, but does anybody have any clues what is going on?
If you're just looking for the temp and compass features you might want to consider one of those replacement rearview mirrors with those features included. I think you'll pay around $200 from a place called Donnelly( or something like that). I thought I had the sight bookmarked but I can't seem to find it so I'm not sure of the exact web address. I just tried searching but the connection is so slow right now & it's time to go home. I believe it's donnelly.com.
I picked up one last week - console, mounting plate, & headliner. I haven't gotten the wiring harness yet, but I'm going back for it & some other stuff. Now I'm having second thoughts about installing it because I won't have a place for my scanner & CB.
That's certainly a slick install, but I have a stick shift, and cupholders on my floor console. They don't spill often, but condensation regularly runs off them. Plus, my truck is nowhere near clean enough to have electronics on the floor facing up, even if it wasn't a convertible (rain ). Thanks for the suggestion, but it looks like I'm gonna have to keep the overhead console I made for the CB & scanner.
