upgraded ball joints

I keep hearing this clunk noise after im done backing up as soon as i start rolling forward...I believe this is a ball joint problem rt?

this leads me to my main question are there upgraded ball joints or just different quality ranges?

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion its the ball joints, it could be a number of things. But I think I saw on a thread that Mcquay Norris has a severe duty series. I was looking at this brand (Ball Joints, Tie Rod Ends, Idler/Pitman Arms | XRF Steering and Chassis Parts). Moogs are made over seas now and I have seen a few people here have problems with them not lasting very long, along with binding issues. You may want to do a search and read some of the ball joint treads.

Jack the front end up, might be easier to do one side at a time with a floor jack. Grab the wheel at the top and bottom and push and pull. If there is play in and out have someone look at the upper and lower balljoints and see which one it is coming from, although if one's bad it's best to do them all while you're in there.

You'll have to jack up the truck and take the load off the ball joint, and take a big screwdriver and try and move the balljoint side to side and ck for play. Check your track bar and tie rods also. All you have to do to ck the tie rods is rotate the link and check for looseness.

or, a big pry bar under the tire, trying to move a ball joint. Just doing it by hand may not move a failing ball joint. Best to have someone watching the ball joints as you work the pry bar.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye on their progress. Been looking for an alternative too.

its almost sounds like u-joints on the main driveshaft to me. check all your ujoints, front axle shafts, transfer case and of course main shaft!

Where is the noise coming from? Front, mid or rear? Does the noise only happen when you accelerate from a dead stop? If you roll up to a light, it turns green and you go, does it do it then? If it only does it from a dead stop then it could be that you need to grease the slip yoke of your drive shaft.

I think suzuki and brian are onto it - sounds like driveline clunk (taking up slack after backing up). Greasing the slip yoke is supposed to fix it. I think there's a how-to in the tech section.

It could still be the early stages of the slip yoke lack of lubrication. It could also be a little driveline slop (u-joints) starting. I see you have tunes, do you do a lot of hard launches? It could be some wear on your driveline. 7000lb+ truck drivelines will start to wear after time if you drive it like a Civic. Nothing against anybody's driving style, but each type has its consequences (good or bad).
