Can anyone tell me what this bulb/socket combo is for???
I found it attached to the wiring harness, but floating free behind the dash while I was trying to troubleshoot my instrument gauge lights in my
'79 F-150 4x4.
The bulb size is GE 1445 according to the stamp on the bulb. . .
Here is a link to a picture since I can't directly upload a picture to the forum:
That looks like the light that shines on the dash insert where it says headlights and wipers. Was it on the far drivers side?
The metal ends fit into a square on the backside of the trim piece that goes over your gauges and your headlight and wiper **** come out of.
Yep. . .it came from the far driver's side and I wouldl imagine that's it. . .I will get a replacement bulb for it. . .not that I think it's gonna help, because the only dash lights that currently light up are my signal indicators. . .trying to troubleshoot that problem now. . .it's been that way since we bought the truck. . .
Any ideas on where to start if I replaced the bulb and that light still doesn't illuminate (along with all my other dash lights except for the turn signals). . .the fuses are good and I just replaced the headlight switch as well.
I just fixed mine two nights ago. Here's how and what I had to do. I took the instrument panel out. Then took all the bulbs out. I then used '000' steel wool and cleaned around where the light sockets go in. Put back in to take it back out because only a couple worked. I then took the bulbs out of the plastic holders and sanded the wires. I then pulled out the brass pieces that hold the bulb in and used a small file and filed where the wires touch. I also sanded the brass where it touches the curcuit board and now I have lights
I forgot to mention that when I bought the truck on thur. the only dash light I had was a perm. right turn light. I still have that light lit up now. You'll need to pull the steering wheel and clean the mecanizam that works your turn signals. After cleaning the instrument panel even the bright light inducator works. I also read on the sight about the dash not being very bright and they suggested taking out the blue cups that cover the bulbs to give you a white background. You have to pull off the front of the instrument panel. There is only two of them. I did it and I'm glad I did. Have fun.
Sounds like a good start. . .instead of all that work I will probably just replace the bulb holders and clean the circuit board again (but better). . .the local autoparts store has the 194 bulb holders in stock for like a quarter a piece so it'll be like a $1.50 to replace them as opposed to at least an hour to clean them. . .the steel wool would cost more than the replacement holders.
Thanks for throwing the permanently lit turn signal light as I also have that problem.
