Possible Fuel Leaks

Well the truck is getting like 11-12 MPG... it is leaking fuel off the belhousing. So what are the places it could be leaking from and difficulty of fixing?

Thanks

i have no experience with this yet, but i have been asking the same questions and everyone says to start looking in the valley of the engine. leaks in the valley make a lake that fills up enough to make a short river followed by a *waterfall* over the back of the engine.

That is correct, valley leaks fill up the valley of the V-8 and drain out a hole in the back of the valley down the bellhousing or oil pan. There are too many things in there that can leak for me to pinpoint a spot. Dry out the valley, get a good light, maybe even a little mirror, start the truck and start looking for leaks.

The valley is not soaking... It has the grime and grease in there but i cannot see a lake or anything...

If there is any down in there its a very small leak that is barely getting the grime and grease wet. At least thats what I can see with the flash light down in there.

The previous owner mentioned a leak... but it must be off and on, because for about a week it left no spots in my driveway after driving it. And it does not drip every time i drive it... i have had it for just over two weeks now.

Usually it's the fuel pump, the blue fuel lines or the fuel restriction sensor. Clean it up good and carefully check it with a mirror while the engine is running.

This post show a popular leak area. It is quite common and very easy to fix.

Aside from that one which you can see easily, if looking, the other areas will require cleaning the valley and start looking as Kevin mentioned.

That is EXACTLY the leak I have too. You say that a pipe plug will fix it if I don't want to spend twenny bux to replace a sensor that aint necessary.

So is that the plug I gotta torque to a hundred foot pounds when I put it in ? And do I use teflon tape or just screw it in ?

After all, aren't these trucks "FORD Tough" ?

Put a pipe plug with tape on it. DO NOT overtighten as it will crack the fuel bowl.

I think 100 foot pounds would def break it apart. Then youd have to buy the filter house I'm about to put on ebay lol.

Now will regular plumbers teflon tape hold up to deisel fuel? Or do I need a special kind?

Just snug it tight by hand then maybe another 1/8 turn. Don't know about the tape thing ,, I bought the part. hey, same threads though. if you over tighten it you will crack the housing.
