I waited to post until I finished. I redid this a couple of times and it feels good now...
I'll skip the install photos the instructions did that pretty good.
But I didn't like the position, too close to the dash. So I made a plate to relocate the shifter back 1.5", not enough. So I found a plate that came out of an old piece of electrical switchgear. it had an offset bent into it, was made out of high strength steel and it moved the shifter back 4", up 1.5" and 1" to the left.
For the Shift Boot I used a cheep cover from WallyWorld and got my wife to modify it shorter and with a fixed hole (it originally had a velcro closure so you didn't have to remove the shift ****). cut off the top off the OEM Boot leaving the biggest fold that the elastic would fit over.
I've been driving with this for over a week, and it's...
Noisier than the OEM
Has a notchy feel
The throw is just a little less (due to my mods)
But I LIKE IT...

WOW, that quite a bit of fab work, but looks good. Since you lost most of your short throw. You might of been better off to get the FX4 level II shift. It would have put you in the right position and it's chrome with a sharp ****. It's throws are no shorter than the stock, but it looks awesome. The hurst looks good as well.
ive had a hurst for a couple of years now, the only issue ive had with mine is it seemed like a little bit more of a reach for the shift **** than i cared for. i made a extention out of a allthread coupler and a cutoff peice of 3/8 bolt. **** is about 2 1/2 inches taller than just screwing onto the shaft. yes its noisier than stock, but a great improvement otherwise. the stock setup does a excellent job of cancelling sound vibrations. heres some pics of my setup, i used the superboot supplied with the shifter, i didnt have a cupholder setup to deal with like alot of the newer trucks have. the middle pic i had the boot on backwards with the dull side of the metal insert facing out. its been changed to the way the top pic is now. the bad thing about chrome is it will reflect light into your eyes, but looks good otherwise. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3216869
racsan, At first I was wondering why your shifter looked closer to the seat but it looks like your seat is not all the way back. You gave back a little more throw, extending up 2 1/2 than I did at 1 1/2, but we seem to agree it's more fun to shift.
it is a great improvement. yes my seat is close to the wheel, im about 5'6" so i actually need my step bars, and i do have the seat closer than others might. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3216869
More changes...
Added a 2 1/4" Shift **** and angled the shifter back a little more.
I set it so that my elbow is on the console and my hand is on the shifter when the tranny is in 5th gear.
This picture shows the seat all-the-way back and the trans in 2nd gear.
