How do you read fault codes without a scanner?

You don't. We don't have the old flashing lamp codes anymore.

You could try an auto parts store for a free scan.

Visit a parts store and get the codes read for free. then go to this site for meanings; OBD-II Check Engine Light Trouble Codes

If you have either an electronic dash, or the overhead console with readout, I THINK you can read the fault codes that way.

Anyone?
