Adding a digital water temp gauge?

Hey all, I'm wanting to add an electrical water temperature gauge to my '79 and still retain the factory dash gauge.
What type of sending unit is required for the aftermarket gauges?
Can I simply splice into the wire for my stock gauge? With both still read accurately?

If you look on the right hand side of that summit page it has a list of suggested parts, one of which is the correct sending unit for that guage ($15 or so) i'm sure it comes with installation instructions as well

Is there somewhere in the cylinder head for the 1/8" sending unit?
Currently I have the following sending units:
1. Coolant temp sender for the gauge
2. Coolant temp sender for the computer (fuel injection)
3. Low speed fan switch
4. High speed fan switch
.

I had to take a peice of tubing about 4" lg and put two bungs and a nut on and splice it into my radiator hose for some extra spots for senders the nut is for a wire to run back to the block for ground for the sender. There is no spots on the head. Can you drill and tap one, I have not looked in to it. The sending units could be the same or they could be diff. you have to get the specs. from the manufacturer.
