I picked up today an SCT#3000 X3, the previous owner had it on a 2004 F-150 gas. It is VIN unlocked. It came with no software or USB cable.
What USB to SCT cable do I need?
Where do I get the software and instructions to load
Tunes (found Spartin's archives)? Any help is appreciated.
I wish I could help you but I don't know what all you need, lots of guys on here recommend Eric at innovative diesel as a tune writer, you'll need to pay for those tunes though. I was asking if those programmers were interchangeable between gas and diesel motors though.
all you need is like a cable that goes to a printer and it will work if you go to Sct web site you will be able to find the drivers and software you will need in the tech support tab and then here is a step by step to get the tunes loaded. If you want check the link out first and it will tell you how it's done
look on the back of the SCT. if the serial number starts with an XP then it's a true X3 but if it starts with something else then it was converted to an SF3 which only supports canned tunes. if it's a true X3 then it will only support custom tunes and then it doesn't matter that it came off a gasser cause the tunes that you will have to load on to it will be for the 6.0L.
as far as the stuff you will need for the software you will have to go to SCT's website and download the software from there. the cable you will need is a common usb to printer cable. one end will look like a normal USB connection and the other side will look like a square connection that's about 3/8 of an inch big with one side of it rounded. also one other thing that you may need is a USB hub with an AC power source. apparently most of the USB ports on most computers don't put out enough voltage to keep the X3 turned on while you download the drivers. that is the problem i had and went through a lot of headache for such a simple fix. on the SCT website where you go to download the software just select software. you do not have to download the drivers from that site. windows will find the drivers automatically for you when you plug in the X3 for the first time.
when you get your tunes from whomever you get them from make sure you save them to a separate folder on your desktop. this will make them much easier to find when you go to put them on the tuner.

Not to step on any toes but I just bought a SF3 and it has a spot for custom tunes and preloaded we put on some of the spartan tunes on friday and I thought the canned tune would be gone but it is still there and it will tune your truck to. So I guess it will hold the canned tune from sct and then you can put three custom tunes on it as well. Any way thats what we did. And it works dang good GOOD JOB SPARTAN!!!
How do I find out what Strategy my Truck has,
I have been looking at Spartan's archived files.
I have not plugged in the Programmer into my Truck
yet.
I am gathering all the information before I attempt to
plug it in and screw things up.
I have downloaded all the Software from SCT and
I am ready to program.
Boost at W.O.T. is under 30 PSI and EGT's under 1200.
Love they way it shifts, nice and crisp.....
This tune is hard to control (LOL),
I fish tailed down the street sideways.
Has anyone here test how mush rear wheel H.P.?
I am still grinning........
The X3 and SF3 are the same, except the SF3 comes with 3 preloaded (canned) tunes from SCT and has room for 3 custom tunes (for a total of 6) while the X3 has room for 3 custom tunes only.
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING X3 & SF3 Power Flash Devices sold prior to July 25th, 2008:
SCT has recently updated the firmware for all X3 & SF3 devices. These devices now have different firmware that will effect all future updates for your device.
X3 devices part #3000 sold after July 25th, 2008 will now only be used for custom tuning and will no longer contain pre-loaded tunes. The SF3 device part #3015 will hold 3 custom tunes and will ship with pre-loaded tunes as in the past.
If you have purchased an X3 device part #3000 or SF3 device part #3015 prior to July 25th, 2008, your device is now considered an SF3 device part #3015, even though the device stickers may state it is a part #3000. When updating your device with any future firmware or tune revisions, you must use the SF3 part #3015 device updates or you will receive an error when updating the device
i also loaded up the ASE and it was great for a couple days. my boost stayed at about 26psi, EGT's climbed pretty quickly but that's to be expected. after a couple days though my truck started to surge under about 75% to WOT. just thought that was weird. it doesn't do it with the stock tune in.
