Well last nite coming home my truck started shuddering and making a loud grinding and thumping noise. thought it was coming apart but then just stopped. Made it home then put it up on jackstands this morning and put her in gear. The trans case was growling and shaking. It is a bw 1345 The local yard wants $125 bucks for it if I pull it. Was wondering if there was a better choice in cases than this one (it is the same price for what ever I pull). Did they make a NP205 that will bolt up? Keep in mind that this is my Bronco and there is no space for a divorced unit (rear drive shaft is only 31"s know). Any advice would be helpful.
Driveshaft mods aren't to big a deal(I made my current rear shaft). As far as the NP t-cases from the older trucks, the out put shafts would still match up? Would love to have a 205, I have never liked the chain drive units. They never hold up to some of the things I get into when hunting and or playing.
A married 205 from a 77-79 should bolt up. It will be easier if you also get the transfer case and linkage from the donor.
There is nothing wrong with the chain drive aluminum cases if they are properly maintained. I've ran my 1356 pretty hard and it hasn't given up in 250K miles (knock on wood ) I would say find another 1345, or rebuild one and see how it lasts. Having the lower low range is worth keeping it IMO.
Thanks guys I will look for another 1345 at the yard, make it a little easier on myself lol. I just hope it holds up till thursday getting back and forth to work, or we get a heat wave and I can ride my bike, yea right! By the way does it have to be a t-case from a diesel or will one from a gasser with a C6 work as well?

You will be able to use any manual shift 1345 from a full size, 1/2- 1 ton, gas or diesel, and any transmission. They all have 31 spline inputs.
Thanxs that widens the field out alot. Not to many diesels in the local yard and none of them were 4x4. Just hope it didn't mess up the bearings on the input shaft at the tranny end, hate to have to change the whole kit and kaboodle. If I had the money right know I would convert it all over to a ZF5 speed. That is the future plan, I really want that overdrive.
