How hard would it be to make a push button start? I wouldn't think it would be very hard at all.
Dude I made a sub box for had one of his 88 F150 he just bought and I never got a chance it check it out.
I want to still use the key to turn power on and off but not be able to crank the truck. Also think it would help in anti theft also if the button wasn't noticeable as a start button.
Don't know if this sounds stupid or not I just thought it was pretty cool.
All u would have to do is run a wire from the fuse box that is only powered with the key on to the switch, and run another from the switch to the starter solonoid s terminal.

Would this make it to where the key can not start the motor and just the button starts it?
Yes all u would have to do is remove the small wire at the soloniod and run ur wire from ur new switch to the small terminal. U should know that if someone really wanted ur ride they could just jump the solonoid and be on thier way. So making the hood lock would be the way to prevent anyone from hot wiring
The correct way to wire it is to cut the starter wire at the ignition switch and connect it to the push button switch that is powered by a Hot In Run power wire. But nothing will happen until you put the key in and turn it to Run, so that it powers up the computor and unlocks the steering and shifter. No matter how you do it, you will need the key in there to unlock everything.
I've got a manual from Kragen but can't find a wiring diagram for the switch anywhere.
I bought the parts to do it awhile ago, figured i should probably just do it since everytime I pass the parts on my workbench, I always think about it.
It is Red/Light Blue. Taking it from the ignition switch maintains the start circuit going throught the clutch interlock or trans nuetral start switch.
Well it seems that my truck's ignition is starting to have issues again.
So it's time to switch over to push button start.
I've spliced into the red/light blue wire on the steering column, and ran the other lead to power, however when i set the ignition to ON and push the button, nothing.
i put one in my truck by bypassing the wires at the switch on the tree, so it just does what the switch would have when the key is pushed all the way forward but now i just push the key to on and then hit the button
where did you guys mount the push button? got any pics? i'm starting to run out of places for switches lol i have 4 right now all in different hidden locations

how did you do this? I have tried splicing into the ignition wire on the column without success, I am looking for the same setup as you have, use the key to ON then the button to start it.
