Putting a 460 in my trailer special. Doing an edelbrock intake and a Carter AFB carb... Also I wanna put a aftermarket cam in there. Nothing to extreme, the truck is gonna be driven fairly often and I really want some low end torque. I wanna be able to roast the tires pretty well =) So any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is my first go at this...
Don't get intimidated on the size of cam that you are considering for your big block. I am running a .525 lift on both sides with a 172 degree duration and it does not lope at all. It is a good low RPM torquer cam. I drive it daily and from a stand still, it'll put about a 100 foot black mark on the pavement before she hooks. Point is, don't get flustered by big numbers. These big blocks can handle a lot of fuel before they get crazy. You might lok at a mid to mild RV cam from Crane or Lunati. Good luck and drive 'er hard.
Look at teh crane xtreme energy 4x4 cams, they have a modern profile allowing good low and mid range power. If your running the regular performer intake I would look at teh X4256H-11 if your running the RPM or thinking of a stealth at all I would go with the X4262H-11
Either one would be a good choice for your listed desires.
Monster baby. I think I asked you before but forgot which cam to use in my 429. It will be .30 with flat tops and ported d3 heads. I wont be towing anything at all. It will just be a cruiser. F250 4x4 I am going to run 38-40'' tires with 4.10 gears and a 4 speed. I want something that will make good power and have a nice lope to it. Getting ready to make a parts order when my machine shop call to verify crank is good. Thanks.
Panther that x4262H-11 will have a slight lope to it at idle in a 429 and make decent power. Much more cam and you start losing low end which with bigger tires your going to want.
Thats a hyd cam so shouldn't need adj rockers, although you may have to measure your pushrods after your rebuild if you have the block or heads machined but I would get the springs for that cam since your rebuilding it anyway.
