Hey guys n gals, I would like some of your opinions.
My dad has a 2001 f250, and he called me up and told me that all of a sudden out of the blue his truck started running rough. He was driving on the road and said it just lost power and felt like it was missing.
His fuel isnt gelled, he changed his fuel filter and has done a visual check of everything under the hood and said it looks good. He has fchecked the oil, and has gotten the cps recall done 6-7 months ago.
So what are some other things to check out? He is thinking about getting me to haul it to the dealer to get it looked at, but I told him I would do a little research to see what i could come up with.
Any/all ideas you guys/gals have, lets hear em! I do have a few ideas what to check also, so i will add them to the list!
Could be anything, unless you can pry some more detail out of him. Need to find out if it's missing like it's out of fuel, missing like there's an unplugged UVC harness, or some other issue. Find out if the CEL is on, if the truck is smoking, and (if he has gauges) what his EGT's and boost is like.
He has no gauges, truck isnt smoking abnormally, asked him about what its missing like, and neither him or I know what the difference between missin out of fuel, or uvc harness would be.
As we saw with my super long *** thread...you need to really rule out gelled fuel. My fuel bowl consistently filled up, even after it gelled up on the highway.
Might help to run some 911 through it just to see what it does.
Truck is in his heated shop right now, he told me he added some anti gel stuff to the fuel. I double checked it with him and he said absolutely no abnormal smoke, and no CEL.
I assume you will try another CPS? Just need to rule that out. Does he have any mods, chip/tuner? And Lisa is right, you need to for sure rule out the gelled fuel. And beer does not count as anti gell!! lol
He used some stuff that my sister got for him from the auto place she works at. Gelled fuel is for sure not the problem.
CPS is on the list of things to check, im just gonna swap mine into his truck to check it. The more I head about it, the more I think its gonna be the harness though.
No mods at all on his truck, completely stock, right around that 300k kilometer mark (thats what 186k miles)
Sheldon, did he fuel up at a different station maybe ?? I got a bad batch of fuel once and it ran bad. Maybe drain the fuel seperator and throw in some additives for good measure to see if that works. I try to stay with the same supplier(station). Good luck.
Just wanted to update. When I got there to check things out, we played with some wires, started doing a visual and he just wanted to load it up and take it to someone to get it fixed. I did alot more reading before I left to help him, and I concluded it was either the harness or the fuel pump. It ended up being the fuel pump.
DIsconect fuel pump check fuel its easy if not have what i saw you live in cold weather Plastick take shorter after when engine is warm plastick expand and Uvc Conector pop out same like on my truck same think
