99 Expedition T-case problem

Ok here is my problem I have a 99 Expedition with no 2hi. the settings are AWD, 4H and 4L. When I turn the switch to 4H or 4L nothing happens. I know the light has not burned out as it comes on when you start the vehicle. My other question is, is the AWD working? Any Ideas?
Thanks

If you don't have 4H or 4L then you likely don't have AWD either. Usually when people have this problem they end up replacing the shift motor down on the t-case.

I'm sure it is an expensive fix but is it an easy one?

It's very easy to swap out the shift motor. RockAuto has 2 TC motors: one for $54 and the other for $81. (The link is for the 5.4L). 1999 FORD EXPEDITION Transfer Case Motor

I replaced the SHIFT MOTOR today, and it quite easy the shift motor's conector will have like 5 but there's also like 6 more for the sensors. they are all numbered.

sweet, thanks. Also I was in snow yesterday and found that the AWD doesn't work, I'm guessing because the clutch packs are gone. Will 4Hi and 4Lo still work if it is the shift motor?

How did you test the A4WD? If the shift motor doesn't work none of the 4WD functions will. The typical discussion about clutch packs is the rear end LSD, which won't really play a role in 4wd working or not.

I tested it by getting stuck in the snow. Rear wheels were spinning like crazy and front ones just sitting there.

You are putting the shifter in neutral before you put it into 4H or 4L, correct?

If you were in 4WD when the motor went then your t-case still in 4WD. If you were not in 4WD then 4WD will not be available until the motor is replaced. Assuming the motor is the problem of course.

Although you can shift to neutral to do either of these. You only have to be in neutral to shift from 4H into 4L or vice-versa. To shift from 2H (or A4WD) into 4H or vice-versa you can also be either sitting still in gear or moving.

I think all you need is a shift motor.

The t-case isn't the problem, the controls for it are.
