Anyone have any experience with Stan's or Thorley headers vs hooker, blackjack, hedman etc.? Do the nicer ones leak less? I'd sacrifice all little power and torque no avoid changing a gasket at every oil change.
Even expensive headers will leak if not installed properly. My cheapy Hedmans I got from Summit for $200(including dual exh kit) still seal nicely after 5 yrs(used cheapo paper gaskets too).
Make sure the surface of flange and head is flat. Install header, tighten from inside towards outside. After warming it up, tighten again. Check again once cool. After a couple cycles I never touched mine again.
Can't say any one header will make any more power over the next. At least not "seat of the pants".
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...rgggghhhh.html Hopefully this will not be you. These things leak like a sieve too.I guess they didn't weld two of the primaries for installation reasons, but once on the truck, you can't get in to weld them for sh.I personally hate them.
I bought some 22-Y chrome headers from Stan's a few years back. The chrome finish dulled and I had them ceramic coated with Chrome-X from Performance Coatings. I like them, nice thick flange. Should last for many years.
