petey, I'll let you know how it works out as I get it torn apart. I may have been better off driving farther and getting something known to be more substantial.
hey guys you must know where is the best place to look for a good flattie
I have a 239 that came out of my '50 F-3. Not sure what they are going for, but will part with it for a fair price. I pulled the pan and can't see any cracks. Number 3 cylinder looks to have had a head gasket leak since there is some white crusty stuff in it. Two head bolts will need to be tapped out since they broke during disassembly. I have everything from carb to oil pan and exhaust manifolds, including generator, water pumps, etc.
Take a look at my gallery. The flathead in it I just got done building it is going into my 52 F1 the guy I bought it from sold me a running motor but told me he would help me tear it down and rebuild it. Once ore down aand checked for cracks we found a few bad ones so he gave me a very good block that was checked and bored 40 over. The crank had to be done 10/10. He is one of the only guys here in Oregon that has been doing flatheads for about 50 years. He has taught me a lot about them. We will be starting it up in about 2 weeks
