I checked the fuse on the fuel pump it seems fine, I think the issue maybe the electric fuel pump mounted on the frame. There is a metal caseing around it that prevents me from really getting at it. Is there anyway to remove it so i can see what I am working with. Also my fuel reading is way above F could this also mean there is an issue with the pump inside the tank?
well what are your symptoms? your pickup could be stuck way at the top, try running as fast as you can down a bumpy trail and see if you can knock it loose
and how did you get the CLEVELAND engine to go into your truck? can you give us some details about your swap??? and why the hell would you want a cleveland in your truck i wont even build one of those because of how crappy they are the only good thing is they have small diameter crank journals so the bearing speed is lower than a windsor

That in itself means nothing, I'm sure. On my 1988 F-150 the guage points at the 3 o'clock position with either tank when full, and I've never had a problem with any of the three pumps.
Maybe its not the clev engine its the stock engine, I was told it was but they were prob wrong. The main issue is I cannot get the truck to start. It will turn over, it just fire up.
On the plugs? I am not very aquinted with the ignition parts. I know if i put some starter fluid down the intake it will fire for like 3 seconds as long as that stuff burns off then it just goes back to turnin

sounds like a fuel problem then, i know nothing about the fuel injection on these trucks i swapped to a carb because the fuel injection was so crappy so count me out...
It is a lot easier to just read the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. When you turn the key to start, the pump is supposed to come on for about 2 seconds. You should be able to hear this happen. If it runs and shuts off, then check to see if you have 35 ish psi at the rail.
If it runs and doesn't shut off, the computer is probably bad.
If it doesn't run at all, check for power at the fuel pump relay. Remember, it will only be hot for about 2 seconds. You really could use an assistant to turn the key on and off. If you have power at the relay and no pump running, check the reset on the inertia switch.
Not sure where yours is, but it may be above and behind the passenger side kick panel.
The next step would be to see if you have power at the pump.
If you have power there and still no running pump, check the ground for the fuel pump. If all that checks, the pump is bad.
Before doing any of this you might want to check the codes.
Testing to see what works and what doesn't, is a lot quicker and cheaper than replacing parts.
Good Luck Frank
Where is the fuel rail so i can read if I am getting any pressure. When I do turn the key on I didnt hear the pump turn on at all but i did hear a clicking noise near the fuel pump fuse under the hood. By any chance where do I check for codes, I know on the 96 and newer cars all I have to do is plug in an OBD reader and thats that.
Another quick thought could the issue be a clogged fuel filter? Because the truck was running about 6 months ago but it had very low gas then one day it just wouldnt fire up. Or maybe it triggered that reset inertia switch which sounds fun to locate. thanks again for everyones help
The inertia switch is a safety device that shuts off your fuel pump when you are in an accident. It can get tripped accidently, but it is not likely tripped by a clogged fuel pump filter.
I have already replied with a step by step on what I would do if the pump did not run at all. The clicking you hear may well be the fuel pump relay, but you need to check to make sure. Do not assume it is ok.
Obviously if the pump is not coming on, the truck will never start until it does. There may be another problem, but until the pump runs, it is the only problem.
I am glad to help you and answer questions, but you also need to put forth some effort too eh?
This forum has a seach feature. If you type in something like "check fuel pressure", or "check engine codes", you will find many discussions about doing these things. Point is someone has already spent the time and effort to type in the information you need and more.
I'm not a great typist and it takes me a long time to type in a coherent reply . Much longer than it would take you to find more info with the search feature.
Good luck Frank
