I am installing a camera system in a trailer including one for backup. The system I am installing will automatically select one of three cameras when 12V+ is applied to a lead.
I know I can tap into reverse at the back of the truck either at the reverse lights or the trailer wiring, but would prefer to do it under the dash if at all possible since that's where the lead I need to connect to is, and I would much rather splice into a factory harness in the cab than underneath the truck where corrosion is an issue.
Looking at the wiring manual, the only place I see the reverse lighting inside the cab is at a connector at the bottom of the dash, inside the opening for the steering column, about where your left shin would be, just above and to the right of the diagnostic link connector. The connector has 57 pins and is rectangular. The wire is green with a brown stripe, and is connected to pin 41.
Scout,
Tell us more about your camera system. The brand you picked and the specs.
It sounds like you are doing exactly what I want to do. Three cameras, one for the back of the truck, one for inside my 4-horse GN, and the last one for the back of the trailer itself.
I'm not sure on the 2008 but on the 05-07 trucks it is a black wire with pink stripe at the lower passenger corner of the fuse panel. Here's a pic of it in my truck. You can see the black/pink wire next to the larger yellow and orange wires.
