There, I said it. ALSO - the standard PH2 is not recommended for the V10, as Ford calls for the Motorcraft FL-820S - the "S" standing for silicone anti-drainback valve, which the PH2 doesn't have - the TG2 and XG2 versions do.

Not to be funny, but I had assumed that the "S" stood for Short.
The Motorcraft filter always seemed like a small filter for such a large motor. But now I know. Feel a little more educated this morning...Thanks.
I like that idea! I got a simular set set up on my 95 Bronco w the 351 motor.
I installed a oil cooler kit that uses the bigger filter. I think a single filter should be fine. But I do like the dual filter kit for the transmission.
Not to bash any other brands, but I have used K&N for years with great results. The one place I will spend a few dollars more is a good oil filter. Part number for V10 is HP-2010.
According to the Dec. issue of Motorhome Magazine (Pg. 58) the V-10 can use larger oil filters -Motocraft FL299 / WIX 51773 / NAPA 1773 / Purolator L40017 or FRAM PH977A.

Hey thanks for the info! I new they are out there I just couldnt find the specs to see what would fit. I have the room for a larger filter why dosent that large motor come with such a small one.

I just did some research on those part numbers and those filters wont work on the 6.8 V-10.
The engine has a M22x 1.5 Thread. Those filters have a SAE 3/4x16 Thread.
Those TD kits are great! EXCEPT THE HOSES. There not good quality high temp hose. Get the kit toss the hoses, go to a hydraulic shop get high pressure high temp hoses and never worry about if you'll pop a hose hauling down the road.
Well darn, PH2 no good for the V10. I used them for 11 years on 2 trucks and right at 200,000 miles of trouble free service. I should say extreme abuse towing, offroading, and truck pulls! I guess I'm the lucky one maybe, but anbody that knows me and what I do will tell you my trucks get USED HARD. Ok so my Wife would say I'm crazy even.

I know, right? From a purely technical/engineering standpoint, the Fram filters are just as good as the rest of them. The only problem anyone has is with the paper end-caps, and it's paper filter media glued to stiff cardboard/whatever, while other filters are paper filter media glued to metal end caps. I never understood how that's any different.
If I glue a piece of paper to a piece of metal, or a piece of paper to cardboard, which bond is stronger? Neither. The paper will rip first.
My brother-in-law sells marine parts, and carries multiple brands of oil filters and over the years has carried just about every single one. He's sold literally millions of them over the past 25 years or so. The ONLY brand he has never had a warranty claim or complaint about? Fram. Go figure.
