****** broke into my truck, while I was shopping for lunch. It looks like the ******* was in and out real quick.
How: The flimsy plastic door handle was the target. Appears as if a screwdriver went into the lock and they pried left and right to pull the
rod. In the process the plastic sheared and the lock is broke.
The take: GPS which was removed from dash but circle marks (wipe em clean) were apparently seen on windshield and my Ipod.
Anyone have any ideas on how to improve security with the locks?
Also are the top two or three preferred security systems?
You can get Jimmi Jammers and put them in your door handles. Some have even swapped the door handles from the rear of a crew cab so there are no key holes in the door (need good batteries for this), but the door handles can still be pried off the body.
Best security is a big mean dog sitting in your truck. Don't really know which alarms help for a smash & grab since no one pays attention to car alarms going off anymore.
The best alarms are the two-way pagers that tell you when someone is messing with your truck. This way you, Mr.Smith, and Mr.Wesson can take care of whoever decided to mess with your truck.
I replaced my front door handle with one that doesn't have a lock. I also have a 2-way security system so if my alarm goes off my keyfob will let me know if I am in range (about 1/2mile). I have the keypad on my door so I can still get in that way, if the battery ever dies I will have to crawl under the truck and hook up a jumper pack to the starter to power the keypad, but I'm not too worried about that. My batteries got low enough this winter to where my truck wouldn't start, but the keypad still worked fine.
i had this happen to me last night. Screwdriver into lock, pried open, and contents of my truck stolen. Will post video on youtube once I get the file from the restaurant's security monitors. I watched it, and they were amazingly quick.
I think I am going to get some door latches from the rear, as mentioned above.
My solution (theft-deterrent) for actual theft of the truck is a switch hidden beneath the dash that when flipped cuts all power from the battery. It's VERY hard to find if you are not me, and most probably wouldn't even expect to look for it.
As for break ins, I plan on installing a set of Jimmi Jammers, but for now I rely on the local PD here, who set up a speed trap right next to my parking spot on almost a nightly basis, and the parking enforcers are constantly patrolling looking for vehicles w/o a parking pass in the daytime
That sucks man, I've had 3 attempted break-ins on my Excursion
•The lock thing described above. You can see where the metal is bent, but nothing was taken, so I'm not sure if they gave up, didn't see anything they wanted, or what.
•The D-side window was broken, but nothing stolen (lucky I know)
•The passenger front window was pried down with a Screw driver, and my credit cards, cash, and insrance cards were taken from my wallet (they left the small bills and the rest of my wallet so I wouldn't notice anything was wrong), and they even pushed the window back up so I wouldn't notice.
Basically, as crappy as it may sound, there's always a way in. I think the best solution is to just not leave anything in your car of value and maybe a battery kill switch or ravelco to prevent it from being driven away. But if they want in, the punks are getting in.
But in TX you can use lethal force in the defense of property
But in TX you can use lethal force in the defense of property
Every state should adopt that, I think in Florida you have to be in the vehicle and in fear for your life to use deadly force. I guess I'll shoot first, sit in the truck, and then call the law.
In most states if someone shoots at you, and turns around, you are technically not allowed to shoot back as they are not considered a threat anymore, so make sure if you are shooting at someone or chasing them down to hit them in the front, otherwise you can get in trouble.
If my truck was even broken or attempted broken into my gun is going up someone's nose. I leave my truck running even when I go into stores.
haha I live in Dallas, TX. Problem is that I have to park my car outside in the alley at night (2 of the 3 incidents)
But, as far as sticking your gun up someone's nose, chances are, if you were there, they'd pick an easier target. I wasn't with my truck during any of these incidents.
As far as leaving the truck running, im just too cheap. Especially with gas prices the way they are .
