That car is really sweet. I'd buy one in a heart beat. Well from the way I see it, 38k is the new value in todays market/standards. Down the road prices are really gonna skyrocket.
Prices can vary, I'm sure the first bach will be highm but as they become more the norm, rebates and incentives may kick in. If they keep production limited like the shelby, then prices may stay to the high side.
I agree, 38K ain't pocket change. Especially these days.
Jim, what other appointments would you consider necessary in order for the new SHO to be that competing super-luxury vehicle? I guess what I'm really asking is: why can't Ford market the SHO against Audi et. al. right now?
Its not just the appointments, which should include real wood on the dash and high grade leather seats, but free dealer service, paid by the mfr for the first 3-4 years, and the whole luxury car buying experience. Together, that means that Ford Motor Company spends an extra $2k or so per car and gets $10k in extra profit, if done correctly, and that's a big IF.
The average Ford brand dealer sales experience sucks! Kids in cheap suits hanging out in front, no thanks! Nothing in LM dealerships has interested me since the LX, so I dont know if LM dealerships have the sales environment to compete with Audi, which is great in that regard. I still think that killing the Mercury brand is also necessary to take Lincoln upscale, but that is another topic than this car.

Good point about the "whole luxury car-buying experience". Maybe that's something Ford will consider doing with the SHO. Or it might be that the Ford is dedicated to maintaining Lincoln as the creme de le creme of the company, and so it's saving the extra touches and extended services for a Lincoln vehicle.
As for your comments pertaining to the dealers' role in Ford's big picture, and regarding the success of the comany going forward, I posted some similar sentiments a few years back in this same forum.
So for all those people who've been complaining that Ford never listens to the people who actually drive their cars (myself being one), this is a just a fantastic response by Big Blue. Recall that just a few short years ago the Taurus badge was, for all intents and purposes, dead and buried.
I realize that the car's performance (and public perception) will ultimately do all the talking, but IMO Ford deserves some big kudos for this. And let Taurus and SHO enthusiasts everywhere also take a well-deserved bow, as well.
It would be interesting if the ecoboost in the SHO will eventually go into a police use Taurus. The 500 already out did the Crown Vic in almost every test the police fleets threw at it and Ford is going to need a new platform for their police fleet in a few years. I am not sure if they can keep the price point in the low 20K's though with that engine in a police packaged Taurus.
Aside from looking like a Toyota, that's pretty cool.
But $38K, holy bejeebus!
Honestly, it made me **** myself a little too. But when you look at the competition and compare, the Taurus SHO is better even with performance and looks.
I absolutely love it. Ford has really stepped it up. Congratulations to Ford for the outstanding products they've been putting out recently.
I'd pick the SHO over the G8 and the Maxima. I was actually considering the G8 awhile back (and still am) but my biggest problem with the G8 is that it just doesn't have the luxuries I want on my next car, the Taurus does and it's possible that it's going to be quicker than the G8.
Sorry, only ford suporting opions aloud here. I needed to squash that G8 crap from the get go, this forum was running to smooth to have someone muddy the waters ha ha.
