How hard is it to fry the IDM when doing this mod? I have a 110 in mine and have been considering this mod. I just dont have the cash to buy a new IDM if I fry it. I guess the cause is excessive heat when soldering?
i sweated bullets when i did mine and was worried it wasnt gonna start after i put it back in the truck but she fired right up and the mod was easy as pie seriously it is too easy
I am not to worried about doing the mod, as I have had many years of experience working with printed circuit boards (Rework & Proto) at Hewlett Packard and Agilent Technologies, although retired now.
Jims right, The hardest part is gettin the lid off and in good condition too. If you bend it up it wont seal. Soldering was the easiest part. Then theres the nerve racking hour waiting for the RTV to dry so you can put it back in the truck. Started right up though

If you've ever soldered, you'll be fine.
the board is thick, and it's conformally coated.
I used two high heat soldering Irons to liquify the old solder, a pocket knife to pop the old one off, set the new one on, and reheated the existing solder. whammy, it's done.
Note: I wouldn't recommend this much recklessness in doing your IDM, but It's not as fragile as some will say, they just don't want you to mess up your IDM.
