Does anybody have or know where I can find a spacer that goes between the master cylinder and the firewall on an '81 F100 with manual brakes? Somebody tried to convert this truck to power brakes and did not do it correctly, so, I am going back to the original setup. If you have one for sale (other Ford products might work), please let me know. Thanks! thehammetts@atmc.net
My 80 had a plastic spacer, and it had power brakes. It looks easy to make if someone could tell you how thick it is.
For reasons I won't get into, I converted mine to manual brakes temporarily because the booster was bad, and I took the spacer out and put it in the glove box. About a year later I finally got a new booster, and when I put it back together, I forgot about the spacer, and ran it for several years with no obvious problems. Later on, I was digging around in the glove box and found the spacer, but I didn't feel like taking it apart to put it in there and I never did. I don't know exactly what it is for to tell you the truth.
With the power setup, the booster bolts to the firewall with 4 studs from the inside, and th MC bolts to the front. Without the plate, there are no holes to bolt the MC to. The plate should have the 4 studs, like the booster, and 2 on the front for the MC. It will be easy enough to fab one up, but thought if I could lay my hands on an original, it would save me the time. I will use 3/16" steel, probably. A 6" square piece will be enough. The new MC comes with a new pushrod. Does anyone have a website or e-mail address for Dale King Parts in Kentucky?? I can't seem to find much info on him. I was told that he might have what I need. Thanks for the reply!!
