My mechanic replaced the speedometer sensor in my '95 Aerostar, trying to make the ABS warning light go out. The replacement part he used was a Duralast SU2175. After that, the speedometer would jump wildly over about 60 mph and the cruise control was very erratic. Reinstalling the original sensor brought things back to normal.
The factory part had a round pickup head; the Duralast was finned. Don't know what catalog might have shown it as a replacement. My guess is it didn't pick up a strong enough signal, so at higher speeds it triggered erratically.
Hope this info keeps someone else from making the same mistake
