[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Feb-02 AT 11:13 PM (EST)]Prices vary in soft tonnneau covers - from $150 (@ Kmart) to $250. Does anyone have an opinion on which brand is good, or bad?
well, i'm in and out of my bed alot, so i opted for a pace edwards roll up tonneau. Its about 650 though. Pics in my gallery. There is a canister that sits in the front that holds the top when uncovered, which doesnt take up much room. Its not the best cover out there but its made me happy. any questions feel free.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Feb-02 AT 04:46 PM (EST)]Well if price is a factor, there is a guy on EvilBay that is selling brand new Lund rail and snap type for $80. He mist have a bunch cause he has a list of them.
I installed my new Extang cover last weekend. I'm not jumpin' up and down happy , but not disappointed. I got the Blackmax. The cross rails stick up quite a bit, which makes three humps in the cover. I'd rate it a 6.5 out of 10.
Got a Sportmaster on my truck. Not too bad, but if you take it on and of a whole bunch like i did, the rubber feet on the supporting bows will wear down, causing them to move at highway speeds. Also be wary that if you paint the rails, let it dry for about a week, a combo of that and sunlight made the foam on the bottom stick to the side of the bed, and its niot coming off.
does the sportsman have the square attachments instead of the round to hold on the vinyl cover

I bought mine from A.A.Best Co. . I am very pleased with it. Cost w/ shipping was $240.00 and arrived within 4 days of when I ordered. It clamps on the front of the bed and has a hinge 2/3 up from the tailgate. Take a look at the FTE home page "tech articles" there is a write up there covering the AABest cover. I would have prefered a hinged hard cover but I'm to cheap.
Yes, I have A downey tonneau cover on my truck. I love it. the frame has a channel to snap into instead of sliding snaps and you can get a regular cover or one that pivots up I bought mine at truckgadgets.com

I owned an Extang once...
It was installed on an 89 F150 short-bed. I was in San Diego when I installed it.
Then when I left the Navy I came back to Virginia.
It snowed one night. Got about 6" of snow. The bows on the cover collapse, and the cover caved in.
And it also caved in the sides of my truck bed near the front!
The cover is very strong, just wish the bows would have held up
Extang is a lousy brand. I used to sell them a long tome ago.. The Downey Top is much better by far and I paid 199.00 at truckgadgets.com. You may have to call them and haggle a little bit but they ended up having the best price and they shippd the same day.
Regardless of brand, if you get a soft tonneau spring the extra $$ to get the hinged variety. I've had both, the hinged is 100% more convenient. I'm running a Sportmaster on my 96. The latch mechanism is a littly Mickey Mouse, but overall I'm happy with it.
The AgriCover Access looks interesting to me because the Bows are built into the cover, and when you need it out of the way it rolls up into a bundle at the front of the truck, where you secure the bundle with straps.
Access covers are great. Look at truckgadgets.com. They have some great prices and you can haggle with them abou price and they threw in a bunch of free stuff with my order
