Axle id
Can someone tell me what size axle this is? The vin# tag says axle-24j

24J:
24 = Dana 60 Rear Axle / 4.10-1 / non Limited Slip //
J = Power Steering
Ford didn't always list the front axle code.
Dana 44/60: The Ford axle ID tag is (was) under one of the bolts that holds the inspection cover on.
Dana 60: The Dana ID tag is bolted (2) to the housing to the right (left on rear axles) of the inspection cover.
The tag is 2" x 1/2" long and will have a 7 or 8 digit ID number, like these two examples: 603010-1 or 603010-11

Thanks Numberdummy... I thought front and rear ratios would have to be the same on a 4x4, no?

Front and rear ratios are almost always different. A tad bit faster in the front for more control on steering and to lessen drive train bind.

Since the rear axle ratio is 4.10-1, the front axle ratio most likely will be 4.09-1.
However...it
was possible to get a 4.10-1 in the rear, a 4.56-1 in the front. This combo is rare, but it does exist.
