What I have seen when they get that kinda of mileage on them most of the failures are catastrophic.
That's correct it does not owe me anything, it has paid for itself. Had I known the tensioners failure would cause a total disaster they would have been replaced long ago. It's hard and sometimes not practical to plan for everything that "might" happen. I'm lucky that i'll get by with a few parts on this deal. Who knows, i might get another 212 out of the motor and i'm sure there will be more surprises along the way.

Glad to hear it can be repaired reasonably.
Just curious, what kind of MPG do you get with the 2wd and 3.55 rear gear?

I am tempted to upgrade from my 2.5L four to the 4.0 for more power pulling my tent camper.

Avg. hwy is 20. I can count on 400 +/- miles per tank burning only the cheapest 87 oct. In short stop and go trips the avg. will drop considerably. After i'm going again I will check. I do appreciate the power from this motor, however I only use the bumper hitch a few times a year for very light odd jobs. I have a 99 expy that is used for a boat/utility puller.

FWIW, with 212,000 on the clock, as far into it as you are, I'd do a complete rebuild, new bearings and rings at least. Ymmv.

I really should but just don't have time to wait. Will replace front chain and guides along with the valve spring that broke. Motor is super clean inside and out with no other noticeable wear. I do all oil changes and try to keep trans. and rear serviced with synthetic oil. I'll just drive and smile 'til something else goes out....sorta keeps life interesting, plus i get some use out of that infamous motor club.

That holds true! These were worn good, mileage considered, but the main problem was a broken valve spring. They were totally trashed on the car i mentioned...double ohc's i think. Thanks.
