I have a 1992 f-350 with 7.3l. I just got it running after a few months of sitting and now if you let off the throttle from 1500 rpm and up, it just dies. It will idle fine when you start it, but coming down in rpm it doesn't seem to "catch" itself and return to idle. I've tried replacing the fuel filter and run injector cleaner through it. What should I look into next? Any help is appreciated, Thanks.
What kind of injector cleaner did you use? Diesel kleen has a good standing among members here. When my truck had this problem (twice so far) I dumped about a liter of auto tranny fluid in the tank and cleared it up within a few hours of running.
What happens, is the governor linkage gets sticky with crud or even small amounts of corrosion, which fits well with sitting for a few months. The deposites cause the governor to be delayed in responding to engine RPM changes and us unable to catch the engine on rapid deceleration and a stall happens.
Its usually not much to worry about. Try the additives mentioned and see what happens.
How old is the IP....... how many miles on it.....
There is a TSB re that problem of stalling at stops and deceleration around corners or when clutch is pushed in. What trans do you have....... please put up a signature with truck info.
Thanks for replies. I will continue to try injector cleaner for now. It's a 1992 with 150000 miles on it, 5 speed manual. This problem is happening in the driveway. Trying to drive it can be difficult with this problem going on.

Does the problem only happen when cold? If so it may be the cold running solenoid.
You can remove your filter and fill comepletly with a cleaner I always use howes and do this every time I change the filter dieselkleen also gets good reports on here.
This gives the pump and injectors a good cleaning.
I have let it fully warm up an it still happens. I used a injector cleaner made by CRC. The guy at Napa said he sells alot of it. I'll look for other brands.
