Ok Ford, wtf?

Today I went to install my Roush exhaust. The installation was going smoothly until I got to the spring perch bolt.

The instructions specifically state to turn the bolt around. I was leary about this. Like an idiot, I went for it anyway. I removed the bolt and sure enough, BOOM!! the bracket gives way and the truck immediately sits lower on the passenger side.

For a second I thought my life flashed before me. I immediately stopped any further installation of the exhaust and will have the truck taken in to have the bolts turned around. I will finish the installation myself, the rest is just pipes, clamps and a couple of rubber hangers.

My point being is some genious at the factory put the bolts in the wrong way, only for the 06 models.

I should've known better but at least it should be an easy fix. I'll remove the spare tire before I take my truck in.

Wow... a little scary huh? I had to reverse the rear suspension link bolt on my Suzuki GSXR-750 when I installed a Two Brothers Racing exhaust kit. I know that its not a Ford truck but sometimes aftermarket manufacturers bump into the OEM design and require minor modifications.

Yea no big deal, this is my first time installing any kind of an exhaust on my own truck, stuff happens. I'm still amazed just how big the stock muffler is. The roush exhaust sounds awesome so far, just need to get the rest on.

Now is my truck still driveable on the road? The shop is only 3 blocks from me, what's a good slow speed I should drive to keep things safe and not damage anything?

Definetly learned my lesson for next time. Only took the shop an hour to fix and only charged me $35 to do it, gotta love it!

Weather is calling for a bunch of rain and wind, so no recording anytime soon. Will get clips as soon as weather is good.

Now for my review. I thought about starting a new thread but I already started a thread on the subject.

This is strictly my own words and thoughts. I removed the stock exhaust off the truck in about an hour, quite easy. Now for the new exhaust. I spent 2 full days working with the exhaust to get everything in place, aligned and sealed. In a nutshell, I honestly fail too see how anyone could install this system in the usual 2-3 hour stories I'm reading. It was a constant one thing after another battle. I was reading my instructions, step by step and even doing proper steps in between steps

Too me, while the system is a well sounding system, there are some flaws in my experiences that I can't stand. The pipe fitment throughout the install was mediocre at best. The clamps work perfectly, the tips look sweet as anything and the sound is simply awesome! I love it!

Aligning the pipes was my biggest issue. You would think Roush/Borla whoever makes the exhaust, would give you a longer left side pipe that runs under the spare tire. Or if there too cheap to do that, at least bend more to better fit the muffler outlet and bend it more straight so you don't have too jack up the exhaust with a car jack, just to keep it straight while tightening the clamps. I literally spent most of my last day working with the tailpipes and no matter what, it always narrowed back to that stupid pipe.

The inlet part of the exhaust is tricky too. Make sure you use the intermediate pipe if you have a ext-cab or supercrew with a 5.5' or 6.5' bed, not sure about the other models. I spent about a solid 4 hours beating on the intermediate pipe on the stocker system to get it come off, reuse old clamps and install the Roush muffler system. Make sure you note the position of the clamps and pipe before you remove anything! I could've seperated it right there under the truck but I figured it would be easier if the old system was off. Suppose it doesn't make any difference in the end.

So between spending an insane amount of time with the exhaust and overal fitment of everything, I'll live with it. Sure can't beat the sound of it though. I give it a 5/10.

BTW, the instructions could stand to be rewritten and better digital pics too see the details. At least I won't have to change it for a good long time. Knock on wood

Sorry for the double post. I just noticed my tips are not level! If your looking from the rear of the truck, the right side seems to hang where it should be. The left side is just barely not touching the bumper. I'm not about to take it all apart again for fear of making it worse.

This was another one of my issues, the left side wouldn't budge without the tip touching the bumper.

Thanks, camera doesn't do justice compared to the actual sound. You get the idea anyway. Any ideas on how I could straighten it out?

That sounds real good. As for the tip, I would just run by the exhaust shop and they could possibly fix it real easy, may not even charge you.
