You experienced guys....do you pry the pinch spots around the outside edge of cluster straight to get the outside ring off for painting? I see the guages unscrew on the back. But I don't see how the outside trim piece comes off. It looks like you pry the bent over spots on the outside edge?? Just asking before I leap.
Thanks Michigan Rick
I want to paint the outside trim, clean glass and paint the speedo needle.
Yes, but you don't need to pry all of them, just on one side, and just a little.
And, I promise the minute you do it the glass will try to jump out and fall on the floor so, be ready to catch that - before it slices your black panel paint.
If you get a VERY fine brush you can paint the needles on the gauges too - so they'll all match. Be really gentle with them, and if they "pop off" let the paint dry then you can pop them back in place with your finger.
Be really careful touching the speedo, instrument and dash paint (the black) sometimes it has oxydized and will rub off.
If you happen to break anything I have one that I just took apart and have no use for, it's just missing the front cover as I used it to weld in the cluster opening on my panel.
