OK on my 86 f150 with the 5.0 efi I noticed that on the rad core it says to get the motor up to operating temp, I had the motor running but it was way too high of an idle and it said to then put in neutral ( assuming manual but possibly auto as well? ) and adjust the timing 10 degrees BTDC.. My only question is how the heck do you get it to 10 BTDC without timing marks on the balancer or an index wheel? Sorry about all the noob questions but this is the first ford ive ever owned, all my engine knowledge is in SBC's.
There are marks on the damper. You will have to roll it around and clean it up to find them, and then you can use white out to make them visible. There should be a pointer up in all that mess too.
Also make sure you disconnect the spout connector before you set the timing. If you don't when the move the distributor, the computer will fight you and put the mark back were it was. You have to take control away from the computer to set it.
sounds like A LOT of fun lol... I hope when I clean off the tab there are halfway descent marks on it and the balancer will get scrubbed with either degreaser or parts cleaner. Hopefully the haynes will give me the spout sensor location, the wiring diargams arent worth the paper they're printed on
The connector should be right in front of the ignition module wiring harness...my 86' does not have a spout connector it just has a single connector you just unplug it...
ok that makes total sense... my ICM plug has a greyish connector right in front of the main plug, sandwiched inbetween the distributor and the coil and A/C compressor
yeah I think mine is the same color wont be able to tell until tomorrow... spent too much time installing a new air injection reactor pipe and air check valve
Mine was too...but i am trying to love it...it keeps on being a pain in my a$$ sometimes...but i just have to keep my patience..it will get there..of course extra money would help.
tell me about it. I think my odometer has seen more miles than the space shuttle and im already into it about a grand in parts on top of the 1500 I paid for it
Mine has just about 88,000 but it was my pops..he just beat the tar out of it..changed the oil once a year if it needed it or not.. I love this old girl..spent alot of time with him fishing and stuff. When he left this place i just had to have it. The wife did not like it..but it was pops..built a 302 ho from a mustang for it.. Having some tuning issues with it...i wil get it..sometime.
yeah I was debating swapping for a 460 and a c6 but I'd like to have a positive gas mileage instead of gallons to the mile. I used to be big against blue ovals but I fell in love with the old box body
