I have spoken with diesel techs at 5 different large dealerships and they have stated that there have only been a few major problems other than the first production woes.

If it wasn't for the EPA's mandated emission crap I would have no complaints with the 6.4.

Of course how many times have I heard about the 6.0 being a piece of s**t and I have two of them with no major problems and I work the crap out of them. They have been great trucks.

All one has to do is review posts on this forum from the early days of the 6.0 and compare it to the same time frame on the 6.4 posts. The 6.4 is a turn around in quality as verified by the details here from ACTUAL OWNERS! I always tend to the the word of an "I own one and ...." type of reply over "I have heard that ...."

Went in this morning for the reflash and spoke with both diesel techs at my local dealer. They said the 6.4 has been pretty good so far. Between them they have done 5 radiators, 1 injector, 1 fuel pump, and 1 DPF (mine). No blown engines or major engine repairs yet. I asked about the 6.0 and they said they average 2-3 HG repairs each month, 3-4 injectors each month, he had 2 turbo's laying there that he replaced since Christmas, also said that EGR valves, EGR coolers and oil coolers are "hot" items they see a lot of. This isnt the biggest dealer in the state but most of their volume is trucks. Enough so that they have/need 2 full time diesel techs.

Its not my intent to bad mouth the 6.0 here at all. In fact my point is that there are a million folks out there willing to stand up for the 6.0 despite the reputation. So far the 6.4 "appears" to have a lot less problems so I would fully expect to see it have just as strong of a following if not stronger. The 6.4 isnt that old yet but to call it a failure at this stage of the game is a complete misrepresentation in my opinion.

Caprang,

Very well said like usual.

I am definately a fan of the 6.0 but that is because I have two and have not had any problems.

I totally agree with you that the 6.4 is much more successful at it's age than the 6.0 was at the same age and beyond. THIS IS NOT LUCK. The 6.4 has proven itself to be a great engine to this point.

There are going to be problems with any assembly line manufactured automobile I don't care if it is BMW. The important thing is that these problems are minimal and that when they do occur they are corrected by the manufacturer quickly, throughly and at their expense.

Hopefully the 6.4 will continue to impress.
