ok i just bought a 88 ranger and i dident see how small the speaker were till i went to put some 51/4 in the dash and it dident fit. is there a way i can make it fit because have spent alot of money on these speakers and i would love to put them in the truck..
Put them in the doors instead. I believe the holes in the dash are for 3 inch speakers. Mine has holes in the doors for 5 1/4 speakers, but no speakers. No stereo either. Since it currently doesn't run, I am in no hurry to put a stereo in it so someone can steal it.
You may run into a problem with them in the doors tho. You need shallow speakers for the doors or it will stop your window from rolling all the way down. My friend did that in his Civic. Put to deep of speakers in, and when he went to roll his window down, he forgot about them, and "chop!". Cut the wires.
A Civic and Ranger are two different vehicles. The wires for my door speakers come in from the front of the door. No way the window rolling down will cut them. I don't even think the window rolls down far enough to contact the speaker, but I will have to check that the next time I am out at the truck.

this shows how american engineering is far superior as far as when it comes to common sense................................
thanks for the info i havent yet cut my wholes, but i have very good comp speakers and are very good. i really hope that i can use these i will take a look tomrrow..
the window does go down far enough. ive already looked. and from what i remember at looking at the specs, the speaker depth that you would be safe with is 2 1/4 inches
You can always create spacers for the speakers. I used to do this in econo vans and such when space was an issue. Get some 3/4" balsa wood and carve out an extension ring to fit where the speaker goes. It should fit but make sure it doesn't cause interferance with your feet or legs.

thats also if he doesnt mind having it be wider than the door panel
