Cam sensor Problem.

I need some help. I have a 99 350 4X4. I changed the CPS back in october. I have had some problems with it since then. It would jolt while driving down the road. I had a mechanic look at it and he ran the codes and found a Exhaust pressure sensor was bad and I also had a fuel leak on the drain plug. Their were some other codes but he said they were probably thrown when the sensor went out. So since then it has not given me problems till yesterday when it did the same thing and I have found out that every time this has happened it has been raining. So I checked the trouble codes and found a cam sensor circuit intermittent. I think there must be a bare wire somewhere causing this. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and can I get just a wiring harness for the CPS or would it be whole engine harness? Or do you think it is the sensor going bad again?

I have heard about bare wires where it plugs into the sensor I would also check the little seal on the plug in and maybe put a little grease on it

Water may be gettng in the CPS connector. I'm with Ray and suggest you put some di-electric grease in the connector boot to keep the water out.

YA thats a good idea. I will check it out and put some grease on the connector. I have been reading other threads. Other people say it may be from the windshield wipers and something about the frequencies getting it messed up. What do you think about that? Also someone mentioned that they had the same problem when they had a leak on the passenger side of the windshield and leaking down the firewall. I don't know if I have a leak. But I have noticed an odd puddle of water on the ground coming from the passenger side. It never did that before. Any ideas?

Is your sensor the original black one, or the updated grey one?? There is a current recall on the cam sensors for the 98(?) to 2003 7.3 turbo diesels for the cam sensor. We've had to replace all of them on our fleet of busses (210 of them!!!) Check with your Ford dealer on this issue.

I bought one from NAPA and it was black. So if I go to the dealer will they just give me one or do I have to give them my old one?

I just had mine replaced by the dealer here in California, but I think I should still buy a spare.

Actually I was having issues of not starting and then they stopped. When I heard that the dealer would replace it I took advantage of it and had them replace it. No $$$$ to me. Great deal.
