Tomarrow I'm taking my heads into a local machine shop to be tested for warping and cracks. From what I understand, these heads can not be milled very much d/t the minimal clearance for the injectors and valves.
Can minimal machining be done to plane the head surface? I really don't know much about this, but want to be informed for tomarrow so I can have an idea if this machine shop knows what they are doing. I could only find one shop in town capable of checking these heads... Thanks!
Ford says not to machine the heads. Most of what I have read indicates that folks are shaving 0.006 to 0.008 MAX! I really don't think I would do any past 0.005 or 0.006. If the heads test within 0.002, Ford calls this good.
I just had my heads machined flat. How much was machined, I would have to look. If it was me I would make sure that the heads are flat and true. Just my two cents.
Thanks fellas, the machinist told me they usually only take .002 off... He will call me if they fail the presure test or if they need to take off more then .002 to get them flat.
Thanks for the help!
If this makes cents let me know? I have had race gas race motor's built before and when I all way's deck the block and heads. There was a time where my heads could not be saved because they did not come out 100% true or should I say there was still a very small grove in the head. I would think this would be worse then be for the head was machined. Becase of the area further a way form one another now they are next to each other and now I think it will leak easier.
I very well can be off the wall here.
I just did a stud and HG job on my truck and it is a lot of work to do twice.
