2V V-10 in 2005

Hi All,

I have a Diablosport Predator Tuner for my 04 V-10. I am looking at purchasing an 05 V-10 as it has a 3V motor(I assume) TorqShift Tranny and 4.10 gears. I checked the Diablosport website to make sure that tuner would not work with the 3V which it does not. It lists the U7152 for 99-04 V-10's and in a second column it lists 05 2V V-10's. I didn't think there was such a thing. What did they put them in? Can you tell by looking at the engine if it is a 3V vs the 2?

I believe they continued using the 2 valve in the van and excursion applications after moving to the 3 valve in the trucks.

You are correct. The 2 valve heads were used in the Excursion up until the day of its demise. They were and still are used in the E-series V10.

You should be able to buy some custom tunes from a Diablosport dealer for your new truck and use your current tuner to install them. You might have to upgrade the software (Which is easy) and erase the canned tunes currently in memory.

2V 5.4L and 6.8L engines are also still used in industrial applications like Generators and Firewater Pumps.

For 2005, the Excursion has the 4R100, which I THINK is still the older style setup without total CAN bus to the dash.

The E-series, has the torqshift for 2006 (I think it was still the 4R100 for 2005), but still has the 2-valve V10 from 2005 on up.

Anyone have any updates on this? I am currently looking for a used V-10 for my 99F-250 and would like to go as new as possible with major headaches. I've been searching here and still am wondering what the year range would be? From what I've learned 3V V-10's are out but would an 05 work? I'm changing motor because of problem that started with a plug popping out so if not mistaken I'm looking at 03 and newer [more thraeds in head] correct? Can any give me a list of what we may have to change with a swap like this so mechanic can give me a better estimate and I can start looking for parts. Any pros and cons to keeping EGR because I probably will install headers at this time too and a new tune too. Thanks I always enjoy reading forums here just wish I could type faster.

03's with later build dates will definatly have the extra plug threads in the head. Pull a plug and use a right angle scriber to count the threads.

As for EGR if it were me I would delete it. I'm from the KISS crowd and I don't like all the extra parts to deal with. More parts more problems and I have had EGR issues on other vehciles in the past and am glad my 04' doesn't have EGR. Maybe you are aware that you CAN use a 3V V10 short block and just use 2V heads, intake and etc on it. mwsf250 did a similar swap for his 99', a 3V short block with 2V heads and components up top. The heads, VV intake, exhaust manifolds and computer are the main difference with the 3V vs the 2V.
