I need to replace the flywheel in '68 ford f100 2wheel drive with a 360 engine and a c6 tranny. any advice or tips would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Normally with automatics they are called flexplates. Flywheels are with a clutch. I was going to suggest turning the ring gear over if it was a flywheel-but that usually isn't an option for a flexplate.
First off work safe. Solid, level ground, jack stands and wheel chocks. Second I'd suggest that you borrow or rent a transmission jack. A C6 is way too heavy to bench press while you trying to remove or install bolts at the same time. One thing I'd like to point out is the trans will not clear the crossmember under the bellhousing. It may look like you can wiggle the trans out but you'll have to remove the crossmember. The bad part is on some if not all of these trucks there is a couple of rivits on each side of the crossmember that will have to be drilled out. If the trans has been out before then chances are someone has replaced those rivits with bolts.
