Hi everybody, I'm new here and I'm posting this to see if somebody can help me figure out what might be wrong with my truck. I've got a 2004 F-150 Fx4 that I've had since buying it new in 04. I noticed the problem the other night when, frankly, I was mad at another driver and decided to floor it to get around them. When at WOT and the rpm's got between 4000 and 5000, my dashlights started to dim almost to point of going completley out. When it shifted and the rpm's went below 4000, it was fine. When they went above 4000 again, the same problem. Has anybody experienced something like that with there truck? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks.
Sounds like your alternator is getting ready to die. The brushes in the alternator are pushed against the commutator with springs, as the brushes wear down the spring pressure drops and the brushes will chatter at higher RPMs.
still running the original battery? I've seen guages act weird when either the battery or the alternator was going bad. I'd have the charging system tested.
I got a new battery about 2 months ago when Ford sent out one of those $20 rebates on a heavy duty battery. I also had to get my window regulator replaced and when I was at the shop I told the sevice manager about the problem and he told me that he thought my voltage was a little high and said he checked the alternator and the battery and said it was fine. But your right, it could be that alternator!
