Last week or so my wife noticed a few drops of oil on the driveway. I thought it was that mystery oil leak from the engine, but I noticed the oil stains and a drop of oil on the rear diff when I left work on Friday. It appears to be the pinion seal since the oil is running down the front side of the diff. I plan on replacing it and my questions for the group are: Could it be something else? Is this hard to change? Should I be looking to replace anything else while I'm in there?
Give the pinion a wiggle test, you shouldn't be able to deflect it much at all. If it does have some slop, the bearings maybe on their way out. If you catch it soon enough, the bearings are usually fine. However if it runs dry, your looking at a rebuild half of the time.
this is the same reason why my truck is going in the shop this week.. i think it is the pinion seal thats bad but no telling till the truck is on the lift and taken apart..
all i know is i have differential fluid leaking from the front and being slung in a 360 degree pattern but the pumpkin is still full of fluid.. so i'll see what the total bill is later this week.

Thanks for the info. I think with the cold weather this will most likely turn out to be done at a local shop. That and they have a lift vs. laying on my back on the driveway. I will make sure to express my concerns about what else may be wrong in case they have a monkey do it.

Yoke? Excuse the ignorance, but I'm not sure what you're referring to here.
