Ok so I was talking about cam's in the start of this thread. Not to change the topic again, Sorry. But on Oilburners.net there is a guy named Typ4 (Russ). He has the specs on a regrind for the 7.3 cam that will help you build power lower in the RPM range with lower Egt's. Once I figure out how to post the link, I will. He has posted all the specs up for this new grind. His is currently running this cam in his truck.

Off topic again. I am doing research on building up my 7.3, to make it a powerful and dependable as I can. In this quest I have found a group of guys working on Performance heads, and manifolds for a turbo IDI. I'll try to find a like to this fourm as well.

ssmikealcharged, What is wrong with your Bronco? If you want an IDI diesel rig just get a ragged out old donor 3/4 ton 4x4 and swap it out like I did. There is a lot of drilling involed for the front axle mounts and springs (the solid axle would be easier to do) and you would have to figure out the pivot mount holes yourself. The rear axle is a bolt in. I did all of this in my driveway with simple tools and a good bit of fab/mechanical knowhow but it is a real nice rig when done. And the Bronco wieghs a lot less than the pickups so you should get better performance out of the engine!

You can then take advantage of the DI design and give it a clean shot of fuel.....It would all be custom, not something you could rely on as a daily driver, though. But I think it could be done.

I think you are re-inventing the wheel now. How close do you get to making a idi a powerstroke type design, before you just go ahead and bolt in a powerstroke? On that line of thought, it would probably be easier to take a powerstroke, take the electronics off, and retro fit an old idi pump(or some other mechanical pump) and injectors on it.

I'm told you can't put IDI heads on a powerstroke. If you could you would have a beefed up 7.3 for sure. I bought such a block, but my mechanic said for me to forget it.

Given the amount of machine shop work that would be needed to put mechanical injectors in a Stroke and a drive to turn the mechanical pump, plus a place to mount it, I would do an IDI to Stroke conversion first.

I can wire for days cheaper than I can get that much machine shop work done.

Converting a PS to a Bosch P7100 would be better, like Rcrawler said.

I'll probably take some hits for this but if you want "out of sight" power the SMART way to go is a '94-'98 Cummins and forget the International V-8s.

I think the origional post was about what an IDI will do. In that case with Dave S.'s info and the links Hallworth put up you should be able to pour money and time into it and find out.
As for me I'm going to rebuild a 6.9L with coated -.020" pistons (compression) 15 lbs of boost with ATS upgrades, headstuds, Dave's gasket tricks etc.
It'll have all of the power I need and I'm sure it will run with the stock newer trucks.

Dodge do you have a place that will cut and coat the pistons I'm assuming ceramic.
