Hi folks, I'm new to the site - just joined today - Hello to all. I live in So. CA and have owned several explorers over the years since they first came out. I currently have a 2006 that I purchased new back in Nov 2005 which just turned 90,000 miles (yes I know a lot of miles - but that's a story for another time). The truck has never left me stranded but I have had a few stupid problems like the plastic on the emergency brake broke off, one of the back headrests doesn't stay up, the handle on the passenger side to flip up the back seat in order to get into the third row seat broke off (keep in mind it has only been used twice) , the shifter mechanism has been replaced as it would not shift into gear, low tire pressure sensor keeps on coming on when the car is started, and the muffler was replaced as it was defective I was told from the dealer. All of this happened within the first 10,000 miles. Not to bad just a real pain in the ...you know what. But recently the radiator has begun to leak from underneath from an area that appears to be like a freeze out plug of sorts...I have heard that folks have had similiar types of problems with the radiator due to its poor design and being plastic. (with a lot less miles than I have) Does anyone know about these problems and what the best fix is??? Also engine has begun to make loud air like sucking noise (very loud) once in a while, any clue? Any help appreciated...thank you.
Don't know if the '06 has the same intake set-up as the '04 but if it does.......check the top of the air filter box to make sure the hold-down clips are closed; check the hose clamps on both ends of the rubber snorkel tube to make sure they're tight; my V8 has a PCV tube running from the R/H valve cover to the front of the throttle body so if you've got that make sure it's snapped on tight.
Haven't had any of your other problems but she just went over 50,000 on the odometer.
I was also told the loud air sucking noise could be the IAC. Does anybody know where this is on the '06. I was able to locate on the internet a pic of the part but can't seem to find it. If anyone is interested it is a Motorcraft part no. CX1771.
Sorry, I was told it did with the part number I put above. Sorry I must have received incorrect info. Seems on the prior year models I guess this was the cause of the problem. Thanks for your post.
this vehicle does not have an IAC, also the radiator leaking is very common.
I'm confused, can anyone answer the question, does my 06 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD 4.0 6 cyl. enging have an IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) or an Idle control valve...YES OR NO?
Maybe I have the terminology or name wrong...I don't know...all I know is an internet parts store seems to have a part "Idle control Valve" part no. CX1771 available for my vehicle.
If this is correct can anyone tell me where it exactly is on the engine?
