Lean Bank? Cats?
Also, I see on here all the questions about removing cats. Just out of curiosity when and if I go to replace O2 sensors could I get away with replacing 4 cats with 2 or would replacing 4 of them be the right thing to do? I read up all the stories about removing all 4 is altogether stupid, that the truck has 4 for a reason and what not, but I'm looking for something to do this summer, whether that sounds stupid or not, so just asking questions.
Thank you.
Concerning the 02 sensors,I replaced the two "upstream" ones at the same time. From what Ive read on this forum
the downstream 02 sensors tell the computer if the converters, and up stream 02 sensors are indeed doing their job.Ive read posts about folks wanting to completely eliminate their converters, but this can(and usually does) cause issues from a reliability, and emissions inspections(obviously) standpoint.

IF it were me,and my truck,I would replace all the original exhaust components with the exact replacement......If you do feel that the converters are bad, contact the folks at bearriver...my system was plug and play for the most part.
That's the key here. While it is possible you had both codes, it would make no sense. My shop says sometimes it's that way, but in this case, you have repaired the issue (at least for now) with the COP replacement.
If you have a lean bank due to an vacuum leak or injector problem, you will get the CEL again. Drive it and see.
As for pulling the cats:
You won't be releasing scads of power, so why invite more CEL issues?
You may have smog checks now or in the future--you'll be required to reinstall, probably at greater cost than removing.
If you go to sell or trade, the buyer may note you've tampered with the vehicle and demand you pay him to take it off your hands.....
Something to do? Install better sway bars, bushings, shocks and brakes.
Good luck with it.
About the cats I was looking to replace with bearriver I saw them on here a while back and I don't want to spend a shload of money so I thought they would be a good fit for me. That's why I was looking to see If I could get away with two, because of the money, but it wouldn't bother me replacing all 4 if I want to, or have to.
n5926g did replacing your converters with bear river change the tone or sound of your exhaust? right now I run cat back into a flowmaster super 40 or 40 series muffler and it just dumps just wondering about the sound change if new converters were put on.
I'm definitely not taking all the cats off because I don't want to go through with a CEL because the truck is pretty much perfect besides the small rust hole in the rocker panel on the driver side door...not visible but it's there. The front end is all MOOG the only thing left is ball joints in the front suspension. Would like to do a leveling kit or crank the bars but not at this moment in time.
Thanks for the replies.
