Hey, everybody, I need help. I have a '77 460 that is way too quiet. I have duals on it with cheap straight pipes from canadian tire. Basically I want the loudest truck in the area, what can I do to acheive this? Thanks for the input.
So you want it loud ok it's simple cut all your Cadlic Converters off and no muffler just pipes But your looking at big trouble down the road.Just pipes no C-converters no Mufflers, the back-pressure will get to your moter and will burnit up eventualy so. what you want is up to you. Brandon
i highly suggest flowmaster 40 series my 429 goes through a set of them in 3" diameter they are 100% welded alumanized steel and have an incredable sound loud at idle and when ya mash the gas all hell breaks loose :-). They make my 53 effie with a 429 sound like the monster that it is and trust me at 16 i like em loud. another advantage to the flowmasters is your legal if ya get pulled over. hehe got mine through jegs for 59.99
I agree with Flow Masters your fine if you get pulled over, but if you want the loudest truck in your area just run pipes. You'll get fined I don't know how much if you get pulled over. But you might have to do it yourself running just pipes, but some private dealers might do it so look in to it,And decide what you want.
With just pipes all Hell is already loose,And when you gas it you'll rattle the hell out of the car your next to.Just be sure it,s not a cop that your running by
Just wondering. If you take off the cats and run pipes instead of mufflers won't this signifacntly reduce back pressure? So how would it burn up the engine?
When you run nothing but pipes on the truck it will suck cold air back into the engine and warp valves it also dumps too much back pressure and actually goes slower, unless it is built up pretty good. it is much better to run a good free flowing exhaust better performance and sound. John (FATFORTY)
A general rule for exhaust is the shorter the piping, the louder the noise, so run any exhaust, flowmaster or borla mainly, and have really short piping, my 4.9 sounds bigger than my friends `94 with a 5.8...My piping is about...hmm...1' long after the muffler, and I still have the stock deul cats in place so I'm perfectly legal...only problem with it this loud is the dash resonates on the freeway
